Let go

A few days ago, I was arranging my room and decided to sort out my outfit, but this time it was a lot harder. Over the past few months, my style has changed; however, I was still holding on to clothes that no longer fit my current style.

Even at that point of sorting, I still wasn’t ready to let go of those clothes. Even now, as I type, I still have some outfits that I know deep down that I won’t be wearing anytime soon.

But why am I keeping it?

Maybe I love them too much?

Maybe they seem comfortable to me?

Maybe I’m just being delusional that one day I'll switch back to wearing them?

This also reminded me of how I held someone so close to my heart because they had wronged me earlier in life. It took a long time before I could forgive the person, and it affected a lot of things in my life generally. It was beginning to become a habit for me to hold on to things that people did to hurt me. Sometimes, I may not even know about it. I also started becoming resentful towards the person and every other person connected to them. There were even other behaviours I didn’t notice were based on my unforgiveness toward this person.

These experiences opened my eyes to how we hold on to things that are not necessary, no longer serve us, or even hurt us more. And we still hug them tight to our chests and want to keep them.

The offences

The pain

The disappointment

The job

Your past

Or whatever it is you’re holding on to.

Ecclesiastes 3:6b: “A time to keep and a time to throw away”

It’s time for you to throw away that thing.

Enough of keeping it.

I’m sure you’re scared of what will happen to you after letting go of that thing, but remember that the scripture in Jeremiah 29:11 says, “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”

God will take care of it after you’re done letting go of it

He will take care of you and help you heal from it or grow out of it

If you’re not sure how to let go of it, don’t be scared to ask the Holy Spirit. He is always willing to help

2 Corinthians 3:17a: “Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom”

He will help you become free from that thing.

Healing is not a linear journey.

So be patient with yourself and keep receiving the help of the Holy Spirit.

I pray that God will help you.
