Hi Everyone,
Welcome to a new month
Welcome to August; your season of a new beginning 💃💃💃
For every decision you make, you write a part of the story of your life. For every steps you take, you move towards a defining stage of your story. But then:
What kind of story are you telling about yourself?
How do you tell the right story?
Who guides the story you tell about yourself?
Why is it even important for you to tell a story right? 💁 Can’t you just live?
Where would you like your story to be made reference to?
In the Bible, every man told a story about themselves; the good 😊 and the bad 😑. Some men, we continue to remember their stories. Some, we aspire to be like. Some, nobody remembers them in the history of the Bible. Some, nobody wants to bear their name. Some, everyone wants their child to bear their names. Different strokes for different people.
Everyone in this region where I live wants to name their child, Enoch 👴, because of the story he told about his life. The story of Enoch is found in the book of Genesis 5:21–24.
“When Enoch had lived 65 years, he became the father of Methuselah. After he became the father of Methuselah, Enoch walked faithfully with God 300 years and had other sons and daughters. Altogether, Enoch lived a total of 365 years. Enoch walked faithfully with God; then he was no more, because God took him away”
Genesis 5:24 reveals why Enoch was so special to his Creator. In the wicked period before the Flood, most men did not walk faithfully with God. They walked their own path, the crooked way of sin but Enoch chose to walk with God regardless.
There’s also another character in the Bible, whom everyone wants to be known as, the person of Esther 👸 in the book of Esther. How Esther rose from being a nobody to being the Queen, how she prayed and fasted for her people, how she risked her life to serve God and save her people.
Esther teaches us that life can be hard, difficult times happen, and pain cannot be avoided. But when life doesn’t make sense, do you turn to God or away from Him? Let the book of Esther encourage you that God is always present. Jesus called us “friends” ( John 15:15), and the Spirit is our “Helper” (14:26). Trust and obey, as Esther did. And watch God silently weave all events for His glory and for our good.
Then, there’s Judas Iscariot 💂. I don’t remember ever hearing anyone name their child Judas. Why? Because of the negative story he told about himself. Nobody wants their child to end up being greedy and a betrayer 😈 .
The other name we don’t hear often is Jesus. I guess the reason no one calls their child Jesus is because they’re afraid of the kind of death that Jesus died 😂. They’d rather name their child Joshua, that’s a little subtle 😅.
One thing is constant about most of the good stories we all want to be associated with in the Bible. And that’s the fact that they didn’t try to tell their story alone. There was God in the picture while they wrote their story. They walked with God, they sought his counsel for their lives, they had faith and trusted in God for their decisions and actions. They had the best guide in telling their story and told one of the beautiful story we all like to hear today.
I’d ask you again:
Who guides the story you tell about yourself?
How do you want your story to be referred to in years to come?
Think about it 🤔.
