Few years down the lane, I had a dream. In that dream, I was in a bus having a conversation with a friend of mine who was asking me if I heard about the death of some people who we both happened to know. I woke up from that dream not remembering if I answered that question and not really understanding the dream. I felt the nudge to pray for my friends and everyone around me against the spirit of death, I’m not sure if I said those prayers that year or maybe I didn’t pray it enough. I still feel like I didn’t obey😢😢. Fast forward to a few months later, we lost some people in a fatal accident 😭😭😭. Guess what? The scene in my dream played out exactly as it was. It was then, I remembered the dream and for months, I almost didn’t forgive myself for the death of those people. I felt like if only I had prayed more, maybe they wouldn’t have died but I was able to find solace and comfort in the words the Lord spoke to me after that incident. It still hurts till now though😭😭.
Just like me, you may not understand what the Lord is asking you to do. You may not be able to comprehend it and its relevance to your existence or situation, all the Lord just requires you to do is to have faith, trust Him and obey Him. In the best of my understanding, there are four requirements to obeying God. There are:
1. Your ability to hear God and know His instructions: Until you can hear God, you cannot be able to determine and decipher the instructions He wants you to obey. Hearing God isn’t a difficult thing to do because God is more willing to speak to us than we’re willing to hear from Him. Revelation 3:20 NLT“Look! I stand at the door and knock. If you hear my voice and open the door, I will come in, and we will share a meal together as friends”. God speaks to us through different ways, and you need to know the particular way in which He uses to communicate with you specifically. To know this, you need to develop consistent fellowship and relationship with Him through communication, just as you communicate with your friends. The more you know Him, the more you’ll be able discern and decipher His instructions per time.
2. A willing heart: It takes more than just knowing God’s instruction to obey Him. It takes your willingness to want to obey Him.”If ye be willing and obedient, ye shall eat the good of the land” Isaiah 1:19. How willing are you to obey God?
3. Faith and Trust in God: Most of the times, our obedience to God requires our faith and trust in Him, His person and His ability to do. Even when you don’t understand why you should walk up to that stranger and ask to pray with him, still do because you believe that God is set to do something in the life of that person.”The LORD is my strength and my shield; in him my heart trusts, and I am helped; my heart exults, and with my song I give thanks to him.” Psalm 28:7 ESV. Is this your reality?
4. The spirit and grace of obedience: From the story I shared at the beginning, I should’ve learnt that it wasn’t right for me to disobey God. But has that incident stopped me from still disobeying God? NO. Why? There’s a spirit and a Grace that’s required to obey God. So beyond hearing God’s instruction, our willingness to obey, faith and trust in God, we need the spirit and Grace of obedience to strengthen our will and empower us to always obey God and do His will. “And the Holyspirit helps us in our weakness…” Romans 8:26 NLT.
Do you have all of these requirements?
Is there any one of it still lacking in you?
You know what it is, ask for it and ask the Lord to continually help you obey Him and do His will at all times.
Thanks for reading till now😊. You’re really appreciated😍.
See you next week and have a glorious week ahead🤗
